Our Goals

The Garden State garlic growers love to share their knowledge too, and these growers are available to answer your planting or harvesting questions. In the center of village, in the Village Hall there will be educational displays & exhibits and a very diverse garlic tasting table where raw garlic, pesto, roasted garlic and garlic dips grace one of the most popular stops at the gathering. Free copies of recipes will be available at the tasting. After trying the garlic, you are invited to vote for your favorite garlic. All votes will be counted on Sunday to declare the “people’s choice” of garlic. 

 

The Garden State Garlic Gathering has become a popular stop during the first weekend of October for anyone loving this pungent herb. The motto of Garden State Garlic is to “educate & promote the growing and eating ofgood garlic”, and you will have a chance to experience this October 2nd & 3rd. Over 100 varieties of garlic will be on display and over 60 varieties will be offered for sale. The garlic growers prefer to offer varieties that have grown well in New Jersey over the past few years to maximize productivity for the home grower. Inchellium Red a mild tasting soft-neck artichoke variety, German White a great all-purpose hardneck garlic, and Spanish Roja a hot flavored hard-neck rocambole variety are just a few of the unique garlic varieties you will encounter at the gathering. Many more are available along with garlic vinegar, garlic honey, variety packs, sauces & spreads. This year there will be an added “taste of Italy” to the gathering with local food vendors participating by cooking garlic dishes. And what better way to celebrate the "taste of Italy" than to add an Heirloom Tomato tasting this year to the Garlic Gathering. Heirloom tomato varieties such as Stripped German, Brandywine & Cherokee Purple may be available at the tasting. In addition, fresh mild & hot salsas made from scratch will be on the tasting table made from the heirloom varieties avaialable. Heirloom tomatoes will also be available for purchase. The tastings will take place in the center of the village in the "Village Hall". 

 

The event is free to attend and if you love garlic join the garlic growers & garlic lovers in northern New Jersey for 2 stinking days of fun.
